Río de Janeiro.- Discus thrower Denia Caballero became the first female athlete to win a medal for Cuba in this year’s Río Games. Caballero won bronze on August 16, with a throw of 65.34 meters.
“I’m happy about the medal, but still not satisfied,” she stated shortly after the competition, although the achievement represents Cuba’s first medal in an athletics competition and won by a female competitor as well as its eighth medal thus far in the overall competition.
“It’s my first Olympic medal, but not my last,” stated the 26 year-old athlete from Villa Clara, also Beijing 2015 World Champion.
