Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla this afternoon, August 14, reported that he and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, in a constructive and respectful conversation, discussed the next steps to be taken as the countries move toward normalizing relations, now that the initial phase of reestablishing diplomatic relations has concluded.

During a joint press conference at the Hotel Nacional, Rodríguez said that, to begin this next stage, agreement had been reached to establish a Bilateral Commission to identify questions which can be addressed immediately, as well as more complicated pending issues which have accumulated over the past 50 years.

A Cuban medication to treat chronic hepatitis B, HeberNasvac, created by scientists at the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB), is currently undergoing clinical trials in collaboration with the French company Abivax.

A Cuban medication to treat chronic hepatitis B, HeberNasvac, created by scientists at the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB), is currently undergoing clinical trials in collaboration with the French company Abivax.

The product has been undergoing safety and efficacy tests for several years, stated a CIGB specialist.

According to Iris Lugo Carro, the clinical trials being carried out by Cuban scientists and Abivax – involving 230 patients from eight Asian countries, and the participation of 50 clinical centers – are being realized under regulation ABX 203.

ON September 28, 1960, Cuba and the People’s Republic of China established diplomatic relations. A few months later, during a visit to China by Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara, the first bilateral agreements on economic and technological cooperation were signed.

China is now the second largest trading partner of the island.
This first contact made by Che in the land of Mao Zedong was of great significance to the young Cuban Revolution, not only because of the magnitude of the contracts, but more importantly because of the recently imposed U.S. economic, financial and commercial blockade.
Over the years, as relations between the two countries deepened, reflecting growing mutual trust, trade and economic cooperation expanded.
China is today Cuba’s second most important trade partner, and Chinese participation in several sectors critical to the country’s development has made the relationship strategic.

Despite all the opposition’s attempts to overthrow Chavez, this political force is rooted in Venezuela’s poor majority, mobilized within the state and on the street to defend the Bolivarian revolution and advance its revolutionary aims.
Had Hugo Chavez not passed away in 2013, the former Venezuelan president would have turned 61 on July 28. However, even though Chavez is gone, his indelible imprint on Venezuela’s political landscape endures.

On December 6 Venezuelans will go to the polls for the 20th time since Chavez was first elected president in 1998. The December election for the National Assembly is shaping up to be another critical battle between forces that for 15 years either supported or opposed Chavez.

For the Chavista forces, victory is vital to defending and deepening their “Bolivarian revolution”.
