Moscow.— “It will be the first time that President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez personally attends the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Union, but before that, he always participated via videoconference or sent a video message,” Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov told reporters on Monday.
Referring to the presence of the Cuban head of state in this city, Ushakov recalled that Cuba is an observer state in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) since 2020.
“I would like to note, especially – he emphasized – that Cuba is the only partner of the EEU outside the region with a similar status.”
Ushakov also reported that President Putin would hold a meeting with his Caribbean counterpart, and that the two would assess the two countries’ ties in all spheres, including politics, diplomacy and economic cooperation. “It will be an important conversation,” Vladimir Putin’s advisor said, according to a report by Sputnik.

Cuban friends confirmed their attitude towards our country, they even demonstrated their full understanding of the reasons for launching the military operation in Ukraine”, said the head of the Russian military department during the meeting held in Moscow. He also pointed out that Russia plans to jointly develop with Cuba a series of projects in the technical-military field, and proposed a closer rapprochement. Shoigu specified in conversations with López Miera that Russia is willing to help Cuba, subjected to the illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States for more than 60 years. Likewise, he stressed that Russian-Cuban relations are on the rise today. HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 7 (ACN) During a meeting between Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and Russian VP Dmitry Chernyshenko, both countries ratified their will to strengthen economic, commercial and scientific-technical cooperation.
The exchange took place in the context of the official visit that the Cuban premier is paying to Russia since Tuesday to continue the talks held between presidents Miguel Díaz-Canel and Vladimir Putin in November 2022 and to attend the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, to be held on June 8-9 in Sochi.
At the meeting, Marrero expressed his satisfaction at the results of the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for economic-commercial and scientific-technical cooperation held in Havana in May.
As he addressed recently by videoconference the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Díaz-Canel stressed that, for Cuba, increasing relations with the states of the Eurasian Economic Union (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia) is a priority.
Cuba is the only Latin American country with observer status in the Council—granted to the Island in December 2020—which facilitates the registration and positioning of Cuban biotechnological and pharmaceutical products, especially in markets with high purchasing power, such as the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan, according to the Caribbean government.
