El colectivo de trabajadores de la empresa de tabaco torcido El Laguito, en La Habana, ratificó el compromiso de producir este año dos millones de la emblemática marca Cohiba, a pesar de las dificultades, expresó a la prensa Oscar Rodríguez Carballeira, director general de la entidad.

Precisamente este jueves, el centro fue visitado por unos 650 aficionados, profesionales del ámbito del habano y prensa nacional e internacional que asisten a las celebraciones del aniversario 55 de Cohiba.

Rodríguez Carballeira significó que, para cumplir esa meta, la fábrica cuenta con su principal capital: un colectivo de 252 trabajadores, más del 70 % mujeres, que no escatima ningún esfuerzo y que, incluso, no dejó de producir ni en los dos últimos años de la pandemia de la COVID-19.

Además, las hojas con las que se elabora este puro provienen de las mejores vegas de San Juan y Martínez y de San Luis, en la zona de Vueltabajo, Pinar del Río, consideradas las productoras del mejor tabaco del planeta.

Recordó que siempre tienen en mente el honor de que la fábrica El Laguito haya sido creada en 1966, a partir de la iniciativa conjunta del Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz y de la heroína del Llano y de la Sierra, Celia Sánchez Manduley.

Puntualizó que de laboriosas y expertas manos salen diariamente 9 000 tabacos torcidos de Cohiba, proceso en el que la calidad es primordial y para lo cual disponen de un sistema de gestión certificado.

A lo largo de estas cinco décadas y media, Cohiba, el puro más exclusivo de la compañía tabacalera Habanos S.A., ha tenido un crecimiento y progresión que hace que hoy día sea la marca más reconocida a nivel mundial.

Colombian magazine reveals espionage program against Cuba
An investigation by the Colombian magazine Raya, quoted by the website Razones de Cuba, revealed an espionage program against Cuba by Colombian military intelligence agencies and with the interests of U.S. agents.

Under the title Espionaje Internacional: Objetivo Cuba (international espionage: target Cuba), the publication announced it had access to thousands of classified documents, in which it is evident how Cuban diplomats and officials, leftist political leaders, journalists and social leaders were spied on.

In declarations to Prensa Latina news agency, Raya-s Editor-in-Chief Edison Bolaño explained that, via confidential sources, he was able to gain access to more than a thousand files which reflect a whole espionage apparatus against Cuba and its diplomatic corps based in Colombia.

According to the magazine, information was adulterated in the computer of a guerrilla chief to blame Cuba for the violent protest in Colombia at the end of 2019 and during 2020 and 2021.

The investigation points out that the espionage operation was named objective Charlie and developed, mainly, during the government of Iván Duque.

It also warns of documents in English under the name Secret/Rel to USA, Colombia that “come from U.S. intelligence agents.” This makes it clear that the U.S. agents were also interested in obtaining information from Cuban diplomats in Colombia. (International News Office)

The Island seems immersed in the usual pace, the people going to or coming back from work, the parks taken over by a child eager for vacations, the stops, the shops, the winery, the August sun… life. But that apparent normality is just that, appearance.

It is enough to look up, notice the flags at half-staff, and feel again those emotions that overflow from the chest since the news at dawn on Saturday, August 6 –admiration and sadness, restlessness and pride– to understand that the duel is individual and collective, which in its official capacity deeply belongs to the people.

There is still no discussion of another issue than the hardest balance left by the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base: the loss of 16 people.

And they all hurt. Fabián, Michel, Pablo Ángel, Raciel Alonso, Osmani, Leo Alejandro, Rolando, Luis Ángel, Diosdel, Andy Mitchel, Luis Raúl, Areskys, Adriano, Osley, Elier, Juan Carlos hurt us. They hurt us in their youth and in their experience. They hurt us in the courage of their hours facing the flames. They hurt us in the pain of their families.

There is something very sublime and priceless when, after a name and surnames, you add “fallen in the line of duty”; because that duty marks the fate of others, ours; It is the price of survival, of jumping in the face of adversity.

The remains of 14 of those fallen could not be identified, their loved ones will not have such consolation, and there is no one who does not feel in their own flesh the emptiness of family members, of friends; and also the debt we have contracted with his memories.

Today Cuba honors. The tribute is not only fair and essential, it is felt, it is true, it comes from the root of the popular soul. Cuba embraces the fallen, embraces the families, and embraces itself, wounded by her loss.

And even after the day of funeral honors, even after recovery, or when anniversaries accumulate, Cuba will honor. She always will. We will not forget their looks or their sacrifice.
